Share the Fair

The Book Fair’s giving program brings your school community together to support students who need help buying new books.

How does Share the Fair work?

It’s easy for your school and local community to contribute to Share the Fair:

o

Families can contribute when they add funds to their child’s Book Fair eWallet. Share this informational page when you invite families to make a contribution.

o

Contributions can be made through your school’s Book Fair homepage and are open to anyone, anywhere. Use this customizable email template to ask local businesses and organizations for support.

o

When checking out, shoppers can round up their purchase or make a custom contribution. Your Kick-off Kit comes with a sign encouraging shoppers to round up.

After the Fair, unused eWallet funds become a Scholastic eGift balance in the eWallet creator’s Scholastic account and they can contribute any portion of their balance to your school’s Share the Fair account.

Get everyone involved

Raise extra money for Share the Fair by hosting games or contests:

o

Offer a lollipop pull or a prize wheel, where students can pay a small amount to get a sucker or win a prize

o

Kick off a classroom fundraising competition, such as a coin challenge, to see which class can raise the most money

o

Create a fun dare for your principal that they complete if your school raises a certain amount

Tips for using Share the Fair funds

When distributing funds, consider these best practices:

Work with teachers and guidance counselors to identify students with the highest need and provide an opportunity for them to choose a book from the Fair. Keep in mind whether they have siblings who might also benefit.

Try to distribute funds without drawing attention to the source and discreetly ring up their books at the register.

Another use of these funds is to partially subsidize the purchase for a student who has just enough money for a book, but did not consider sales tax.

Please note: If funds remain unused in your account after two years, Scholastic may allocate them to another school to help more students. For more information, see the program’s terms and conditions.
